Alex & the Dukes
Alex and the Dukes is a musical project that began in 2016 co-founded by Alex August, Pasi Sipilä and Denis Prokopenko revolving around original ukulele compositions written by Alex August.
The trio encountered each other one evening when Alex was playing in a square in the Old City of Nicosia. After jamming, playing and busking in the old streets of the city centre, the three eventually organised their first gigs accompanied by percussionist Ioannis Peristiannis, forming Alex and the Dukes. They were eventually joined by second percussionist Tiki Friehs.
The band were most commonly found playing at Hoi Polloi in the North and Meraqi in the South of the Old City of Nicosia.
Interchanging between a collective of musicians all contributing to the musical project since its fruition, Alex and the Dukes have performed songs with fusions of acoustic reggae, indie and folk in numerous festivals and events around the island that actively work towards inspiring unity in the communities of Cyprus.
The group spread their big love philosophies with a never-ending fun upbeat energy, bringing everybody together, and inspiring the collective to be a loving embodiment of the positive reform we seek in our world.
Today they look forward to releasing their debut album, recorded in a traditional residential home in the Old City of Nicosia.
