Earth’s Daughter
Turbulent and manic
I am every shape but static
Ferocious, dark and deep
Electric when the clouds weep
One cannot tame me for I am free
Shaped with destructive elements you cannot flee
That corrode the land of all things man
Run, run from me as fast as you can
I flow with no plan and shall spare none
But all will still respect me after I am done
For when I am scarce you thirst for me
Shrivelling and wilting like desert ants
You cry for me
Like you do the gods
Who you fear and love
But question not
For I am water,
Earth’s daughter
The current of life
And no lover of slaughter
I nurture and cherish the flow of life
Cast my waves ashore to your delight
Cradle the crustaceans and surround all nations
Like a bridge between your lands
I’m as close to you as the space between lovers’ entwined hands
The ebb and flow of growth and love is what governs me
Learn from this and you can be free
I wash away your burdens
And bring summer’d excite
I come crashing with surging passions of might
Twinkling magic under mystic moonlight
Giving and giving with no need for return
But hate is what makes my waters churn
So I apologise but I must be stern
For I must wash away the filth and grit
To remind those who don’t remember and fill me with spit
That I am water
Earth’s daughter
And this was my home first
So if you are to be here
Love me too
Then I may remember to spare you
